In the fall of 2020, I received a call from The Economist to team up with freelance journalist Brent Crane to produce a story for their 1843 Magazine about Northern California's sea urchin problem that has lead to the destruction of the state's kelp forests.  The whirlwind 3-day assignment took me from Monterey to Moss Landing and all the way up to Fort Bragg meeting with citizen scientists, marine biology researchers, and commercial urchin divers; all with common goal of reducing the impact of the sea urchin invasion.  Follow the link below to check out the whole story.
